Methods

I offer my students practice in:
-conversation
-grammatical explanations
-reading
-writing
-accent reduction.

I use a combination of approaches, including regular conversation, explanation of grammar rules, modern linguistics and phonetics, as well as practice reading, writing, and editing.

Conversation topics are either relevant to language learning or tailored to the student’s interests. Conversations are an appropriate pace for the student and can gradually increase in speed and complexity as the student improves. The speed is based on the student and questions are encouraged. Grammatical explanations are generalized to help predict and recognize new words and expressions. Phonetic explanations help with accent reduction and with understanding why and how accents are difficult to change. Learning about the anatomy of the mouth and throat helps students learn to recognize and make the new sounds themselves.

Communicating well takes practice. It is not always easy and it can not be done as quickly as some people tell you it can. We will work hard together to improve your English.
